Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy

What is Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral touch

Craniosacral touch

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle way of working with the body using light touch.

Craniosacral Therapy works with the whole person – changes may occur in body, mind and spirit during and after sessions.

I will use my hands to listen to your body, as a counsellor might listen to your words. Your body responds to this sensitive touch by beginning to listen to itself.

The touch is so gentle and non-invasive, Craniosacral Therapy is suitable for everyone from newborns to the elderly.

Some of the phrases my clients have used to describe their experiences of Craniosacral Therapy:
“Comforting – inner peace – a sense of relief – deep stillness and relaxation – feeling heard – feeling balanced and more integrated – seeing different colours and patterns – feeling spacious within – remembering past events – getting in touch with my emotions.”

Craniosacral Therapy supports your body’s innate ability to balance, restore and heal itself as well as reduce stress. The practitioner senses tensions in the body and helps to release them in a supported and comfortable way. During or after a session you may feel calm and energised, with increased clarity of mind and a feeling of well-being.

Through the simplicity of gentle listening touch, Craniosacral Therapy offers a distinctive stillness that allows your mind and body to rest deeply and begin to restore its natural balance.  Craniosacral Therapy recognises and assists the connections between body, mind and emotions. In the peaceful space created during a session your body can become more fully integrated.

What happens in a session?

I will take your case history, listening with care to the reasons for your visit. This part of the session is important, both for gathering information and to establish a good understanding with you.

The session typically lasts an hour, although this can vary.

You remain clothed and will usually lie face up or on your side, or you may be seated.

I most often make light contact with your head, the base of your spine, your feet and other areas, encouraging your body to relax and begin the changes it needs to make. Because the body functions as a whole, I may focus on areas other than where your symptoms occur, guided by your body.

I will encourage you into an awareness of your body, then I get a sense of where to place my hands. In order for you to feel comfortable and safe, I will let you know when I am going to move my hand locations, and check if this is OK with you beforehand.
Sessions are manipulation-free and adjustment-free.

How many sessions?
After a session there is occasionally a short period of adjustment as part of the healing process, where you may become more aware of symptoms. Sometimes people report relief after only one or two sessions.

For long-standing problems further sessions may be needed. Some people find they benefit from regular treatment over an extended period of time and say that, as well as noticing improvement in their physical or emotional symptoms, they feel that they have more awareness of their own needs and strengths, and their quality of life has improved.

Please be aware that you need to drink water ahead of your session.
